Holy Island Wedding Photography | Danielle & Henry

Danielle & Henry's Holy Island wedding photography gives a lovely insight into a wedding day on this iconic island.

Danielle & Henry's Holy Island wedding photography gives a lovely insight into a wedding day on this iconic island. Steeped in history and tradition, it's a place that brings back lots of childhood memories for me. As a Northumberland wedding photographer, weddings on Holy Island are few and far between. So as a result, when the opportunity came along to photograph Danielle & Henry's wedding, I jumped at the chance. Their wedding was a lovely mix which included a romantic church ceremony, strict Holy Island traditions (see pics) followed by the most amazing marquee reception. As is the case in the UK, there's a 50/50 chance of rain or sunshine for marquee weddings. Thankfully, we were blessed with sunshine, and it was glorious!

A wedding on Holy Island

The day started at Danielle's grandparent's house where her family met before the short walk through the village to the church. Danielle was escorted to the church by her stepfather and as they approached the church was met by her father. It was a beautiful moment to photograph and being such a lovely day, the crowds were also out to witness one of their own getting married. After a lovely church service we gathered in the Priory grounds to take a few photographs of the family before the walk to the marquee and onto the party.

Photo opportunities on Lindisfarne

I’ve always said that wedding photography is all about the crowd rather than the location. That said, when you get a good crowd and a great location such as the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, well that’s a win-win! I never arrive at a wedding with an agenda of must have photos (with the exception of a list of family formals), but the thought of a few with Lindisfarne Castle as the back drop did peak my interest. Unfortunately, it was wrapped in scaffolding that had been erected to allow workers to replace the roof so pictures were limited. Nevertheless, Danielle & Henry did manage a short walk down to the harbour and we got some lovely photos of them on the beach.

Marquee wedding on Holy Island

The party was just as good as I imagined it to be. I did tell you at the beginning of this blog post that Holy Island brings back lots of childhood memories. Well Danielle’s uncle just happens to be one of my best friends who I met at school. So knowing how Neill likes a knees up, I knew the rest of the family would join in too and so they did. The weather was gorgeous and the guests were in fine spirits. I’ll hand you over to their Holy Island wedding photos as they tell the story a lot better than I could write it.

I was born and bred just a few miles north of Holy Island and I’m lucky enough to photograph weddings throughout Northumberland and the rest of the UK. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer for your own wedding, then feel free to get in touch.

Bamburgh Castle Wedding Photography | Sophie & Abe

Sophie & Abe's Bamburgh Castle wedding photography was a scorcher, in more ways than one. Think green fields, blue skies, sandy beaches and iconic castles.

Sophie & Abe's Bamburgh Castle Wedding Extravaganza

Sophie & Abe's Bamburgh Castle wedding photography was a scorcher, in more ways than one. Think green fields, blue skies, sandy beaches and iconic castles. Then, add a crowd that were warm, welcoming and up for a party and you’ve got the making of an epic day. Sophie and Abe's wedding at the stunning Bamburgh Castle was nothing short of magical.

I’ve seen a growing trend over the years where couples are taking more control of the format of their day and really making it their own. This trend is so refreshing and exciting to see (and photograph!). Of course the traditional elements are still ever present, the ceremony, the confetti and speeches for example, but to throw in a drinks reception attended by everyone before the ceremony was a lovely twist to the day.

Wedding marquee at Bamburgh Castle

We started with the bridal preparations in a strategically chosen holiday cottage just off the cricket field, overlooking both the marquee and castle itself. The cottage was easy walking distance from everything which played a huge part in making the day go seamlessly smooth. The wedding party slowly got ready, and Sophie was in outfit number one, the cocktail suit.

First up it was drinks on the lawn. The wedding marquee at Bamburgh Castle looked breathtaking with the castle behind. It was such a swelteringly hot day, everyone basking in the sun and the colours were vibrant! Soon the wedding party headed up to the castle where Sophie changed into her dress in the Philippa Tower within the castle walls. The guests made their way up via the various footpaths and Abe and his groomsmen positioned themselves in the King’s Hall waiting for Sophie and her father to arrive.

King’s Hall wedding ceremony at Bamburgh Castle

The King’s Hall is built on the site of the old medieval Great Hall and is a Victorian masterpiece. When you first walk into the hall it’ll take your breath away for sure. The ceremony was beautiful, and family and friends spoke beautiful words about the lovely couple. One speaker delivered a lovely poem which was kind, loving and hilarious at the same time. After the ceremony I spent a few moments photographing the families before we all headed down to the Battery Terrace for drinks.

A drinks reception on the Battery Terrace

Quite possibly the best views of any wedding venue in the UK, the Battery Terrace was the venue for drinks reception number 2 of the day. About those views out to sea, north towards Holy Island and south past the newly reopened Farne Islands, simply wonderful. Feeling the sea breeze against already sun kissed skin couldn’t have come sooner as I think we were all feeling the heat of the day by this point. Pay particular attention to the veil shot that I’ve included in my photo summary of the day. A sudden gust of wind took hold of Sophie’s veil and rocketed it off skywards. If it wasn’t for an eagle eyed guest with lightning fast reactions then the veil could quite easily have landed somewhere on the Farne Islands! After all the excitement it was time for the guests to make their way back down to the marquee, whilst Sophie, Abe and I dashed down to the beach.

Wedding photos on Bamburgh Beach

Of all the weddings I’ve had the privilege of photographing at Bamburgh Castle I think most have gone to the beach at some point in the day. If anything, it gives the couple a small window of time together to relax, kick off their shoes and feel the sand between their toes. Wedding days fly by but it’s important to grab a moment together and soak it all up. So when the guests walked down to the marquee the timing for the beach trip was perfect as it didn’t eat into their day. As a documentary wedding photographer I prefer not to get too involved with the couple at this point. I want authentic images of real people so me jumping in and saying do this or do that just doesn’t work. Sophie & Abe spent the time together in a way that made the photography effortless. They were enjoying each others company like no one was watching and that to me is gold dust.

Save the last dance for me

I’m wrapping this story up right here as I really think it’s time to let the images do the talking. Back at the marquee there were speeches, the wedding breakfast and then we kicked off into the evening celebrations. Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better it really did. Abe is a musician, and a mighty good one at that. so when the band got to the end of their first set, Abe and a few of his friends (also mighty fine musicians) proceeded to hop on stage and tear the roof down. What a finale! If Carlsberg did weddings, Sophie & Abe just raised the bar. Beautiful humans, inside and out. Thank you guys.

Your Bamburgh Castle Wedding Photography

I was born about 10 miles north of Bamburgh Castle and grew up on this coastline. In 2009 I proposed to my wife on the beach below Bamburgh Castle as the sun came up. A Northumbrian inside and out I could never have imagined as a kid that I’d be working here photographing weddings. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer for your own bash, and like my style, feel free to get in touch.

Check out Lianne & Fin's amazing Woodhill Hall wedding photos if you're looking for some serious wedding photography inspiration! This amazing Northumberland wedding venue is a firm favourite amongst discerning couples and wedding suppliers.

Woodhill Hall is located within an hour of Newcastle along the A696 road to Jedburgh. As you approach the rural village of Otterburn it's just a short drive from there. Being an exclusive wedding venue means you'll enjoy your time here with family and friends in total privacy. On their own website they describe it as an exclusive and totally unique 2 nights and three days wedding experience.

I know through the power of social media that the venue has gone through a bit of a face lift over recent years. Having not photographed here since before lockdown I can't wait to get back to see what they've done.

Indoor or outdoor wedding ceremony?

I guess this would probably depend on the weather in the UK! The fact is, if you're an outdoor butterfly then this place will have you covered. What better backdrop in the world is there than that of an outdoor ceremony at Woodhill Hall?

Not that I'm biased being a Northumbrian myself but is there really anywhere in the UK  more beautiful? One of many things I love about this venue is the freedom it gives the wedding party to get outdoors.

There's so many amazingly quirky spaces to explore. From a photographer's perspective, no matter the style of photographer you choose your Woodhill Hall wedding photos will be amazing.

Looking for Woodhill Hall wedding photos of your own?

If natural and unobtrusive is your style of photography then why not get in touch. In my years of photographing weddings I can say through experience that your day will fly by. The Parlour Blagdon Wedding Photography | Sam & James

The Parlour Blagdon wedding photography - Sam & James. The Parlour at Blagdon is the hidden gem of Northumberland wedding venues.

The Parlour Blagdon wedding photography with Sam & James. The Parlour at Blagdon is a hidden gem. It's ideal for couples looking for a quirky and intimate wedding venue in Northumberland. From a wedding photographer's perspective the venue offers an abundance of interesting buildings, backdrops and gorgeous light during the day and at night.

Described on it's own website as "A destination with a difference" The Parlour is both unique and exclusive. As a result, this means that you and your guests will enjoy private use of the facilities from the bride arriving to the dancing and sparklers. Being a stone's throw from the A1 and A19 roads means getting to and from The Parlour is a breeze.

Speaking first hand, I can recommend this little part of Northumberland. If you're considering a stay there's an abundance of things to do and places to visit.

The Parlour Blagdon Wedding Photography - Natural & Candid wedding photos

Sam & James hired me around the same time their friends did for their own wedding. Since their friend's wedding came first it was really cool to get to meet them beforehand. What I really loved about their plans was that in place of a traditional first dance, they opted for a quiz.

More and more these days couples are really breaking the mould and doing their own thing which I absolutely adore.I always make a point of hooking up online with my couples in the days leading up to their event. We discuss timings and photographs, share ideas etc. When they tell me they're doing something out of the ordinary it's almost as if they're testing the water with me and expecting me to fall off my chair in disgust!

I can't stress enough how much I admire couples for doing their own thing. I'm there to photograph whatever it is they're doing. That could be jumping towards the ceiling doing the Gay Gordon, or banging heads together trying to  figure out which of the Williams sisters won more Grand Slam matches :-)

The Parlour at Blagdon - Northumberland Wedding Venue

So, if you're getting married and looking for a quiz master/wedding photographer for your very own Parlour Blagdon wedding photography, I'd really love to hear from you. Not to exclude anyone who may have stumbled across my blog by accident, and happen to be getting married somewhere else. I love you too!

Feel free to pop me an enquiry to check I have your date free here.

Wylam Brewery Wedding Photography | Meg & Eliot

Meg & Eliot's Wylam Brewery wedding photography took place on a fresh winter's day in January by North East wedding photographer Phil Nunez

Meg & Eliot's Wylam Brewery wedding photography in Newcastle upon Tyne took place on a fresh winter's day in January. The sun was shining and the sky was a cloudless blue. As a result, the light inside Wylam Brewery was something special.Wylam Brewery in Newcastle is located in the beautiful surrounds of Exhibition Park.

Being so close to the city makes it an ideal venue where music, food and wedding events are a regular feature.  The venue itself is actually known as the Palace of Arts. It's from this building from which the brewery operates and weddings take place. For couples looking for quirky wedding photos I would highly recommend Wylam Brewery.

The Grand Hall with all its architectural features and gorgeous natural light is a sight to behold. Adding to that, the modern set up of the brewery with its stainless steel hopper tanks and myriad of pipework and you have a truly wonderful setting.

Why you would choose Wylam Brewery in Newcastle as your own wedding venue?

Couples who choose to get married at Wylam Brewery in Newcastle are often drawn to venues that offer a blend of character, history, and modern charm. These couples appreciate the unique and quirky setting that a brewery provides for their special day.

Many couples who tie the knot at Wylam Brewery are often craft beer enthusiasts or appreciate the art of brewing. They enjoy being surrounded by towering fermentation tanks, the sweet aroma of hops, and the rustic ambiance that a working brewery offers.

The couples who opt for Wylam Brewery as their wedding venue are typically laid-back, fun-loving, and enjoy good laughs with family and friends. They value a relaxed atmosphere where they can let loose and celebrate in a casual yet stylish setting.

Overall, couples who choose to get married at Wylam Brewery in Newcastle are those who desire a wedding experience that is far from traditional. They seek a venue that mirrors their personalities, values authenticity, and sets the stage for a memorable celebration that reflects their love story.

Wylam Brewery wedding photos with Meg & Eliot

As far as weddings go this one had a lovely relaxed vibe to it. Meg & Eliot chose a party of 80 friends and family to celebrate the day with them. It would be rude of me not to mention Gus, their rather lovely four legged friend. Not only was this a child friendly wedding celebration, it was dog friendly too.

From a wedding photographer's perspective, this place really brings out the best in our creativity. There's chinks of light everywhere that can tell a story when framed with an element of the wedding proceedings.

Meg & Eliot opted for a shorter package which allowed me to photograph their ceremony through until speeches. Considering I was only in attendance for a few hours, we were able to capture some beautiful Wylam Brewery wedding photos together.

Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photographer - Zoe & Alex

Zoe & Alex hired me as their Le Petit Chateau wedding photographer since they wanted their photography captured in a documentary style.

Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photography in Northumberland

Zoe & Alex hired me as their Le Petit Chateau wedding photographer since they wanted a documentary wedding photographer to tell their story. Le Petit Chateau in Northumberland is a truly unique wedding venue. Styled on a French chateau,  your wedding party really could be anywhere in France on a hot summer day. With a multitude of rooms and open spaces, there's options to suit every style of wedding both indoors and out.

Le Petit Chateau is located in the rural village of Otterburn on the A696 Newcastle - Jedburgh road. The drive there alone really takes your breath away.  Parking is immediately off the main road. Access is good and what looks like a relatively warm and cosy country hotel actually opens up inside to a series of large spaces, beautiful bar areas and tastefully decorated rooms.

Wedding Photos at Le Petit Chateau in Northumberland

I almost always start the day photographing the bridal preparations. Introducing myself to everyone I quietly go about my business of observation and making photographs. I can't help but notice how relaxed Zoe is. There's a calmness in the room yet at the same time everyone's in their own little world getting ready, all at different stages in the process, be it hair, makeup and everything in between.

One of the things I like about Le Petit Chateau wedding photography is that it's never easy. What I mean by this is that it's actually quite challenging to photograph in. There's a romantic ambience to the lighting which is lovely and warm but airing on the dark side, and as a result I love the challenge of finding good light to work with.

I catch up with Alex and the gents as they fasten button holes and straighten ties. Alex looks a little nervous, understandable really on such a big day! The weather outside is lovely, the sun is shining and it's really showing off the exterior design and all its colour. That's the thing you see. As a Le Petit Chateau wedding photographer no matter where in the building you are, inside or out, there's photographs everywhere.

My main focus as a documentary wedding photographer is the people first, followed by the venue. When you add the two together and everything clicks, there's no better feeling. The ceremony room at Le Petit Chateau is known as the Belle Epoque, a celebration of beautiful 19th century France. It's a gorgeous French chapel ceremony room and boasts some truly stunning art decor. With the preparations complete the ceremony begins. Alex and his best men are in position and the bridesmaid arrive first.

The wedding ceremony was perfect and unique

Walking down the aisle with her father, Zoe looked stunning. The ceremony went without a hitch and they were soon Mr & Mrs. I think Alex was just relieved that bit was over! Zoe had the most beautiful smile and Alex just looked like the cat that got the cream. The rest of the day was just a joy. I'm going to stop with the words and hand over to their photographs. I'm confident they tell the story better than I can write it. I loved every second of this wedding and feel blessed that they hired me.

Are you looking for your own Le Petit Chateau wedding photographer?

If you like the images you're about to see and think you'd like a documentary wedding photographer for your own wedding then why not get in touch? My style is natural, candid and extremely unobtrusive.

Most couples hire me because they want good photography without feeling like they're on some sort of styled photoshoot. Why not spend every second with your family and friends, and I'll work the photography around you!To see another wedding at this amazing venue then check out Lara & Anth's Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photography

Healey Barn Wedding Photography | Roma & David

If you're looking for Healey Barn wedding photography of your own then check out Roma & David's beautiful wedding story.

If you're looking for Healey Barn wedding photography of your own then check out Roma & David's beautiful wedding story. Our day started off overlooking stunning views of the surrounding Hexham countryside.

When I arrived at Roma's parents house I was greeted with warm smiles and an open welcome. Bridal preparations during the morning can often be a frantic affair. Bridesmaid, family and wedding suppliers coming and going. I love the buzz on a wedding morning and probably get just as excited as the bride!

Healey Barn is an eighteenth century barn set within its own private grounds. If you're going for a rustic theme for your wedding then Healey Barn should be one to consider. It's nestled in the heart of the most beautiful Northumberland countryside and only a short drive from the A68 which heads south off the A69 near Corbridge. It's a perfect wedding venue and really comes into its own on long summer days.

Your Healey Barn Wedding Photography

From a wedding photographer's perspective there's lots of  interesting places to photograph inside and out. There's nothing more refreshing than a courtyard full of wedding guests basking in sunshine and sipping pimms all dressed up in their smarts. After the wedding ceremony we did some family photographs using the barn doors as the backdrop.

Well if you're going for a rustic farm wedding then why not? Like many couples who get married at Healey Barn, Roma and David wanted some portraits in the nearby woodland. It's only a short drive down the road, and literally takes less than a minute to get there.

I often get asked being a documentary wedding photographer, if I do couple portraits. The answer is a resounding yes. Along with a few family photographs, I always allow some time for couple portraits. Usually, all that is required is 15-20 minutes. I won't ask you to climb trees or throw smoke grenades at you. Instead, my attitude towards this part of the day is that it's an ideal bit of down time for you guys.

So go for a stroll, have a catch up, enjoy a giggle together and I'll work around you. This was exactly what I did for Roma & David and like hundreds of couples before.

My photographic approach to Healey Barn Wedding Photography

My approach to wedding photography has remained the same for the last 15 years. As a documentary wedding photographer my main job is to observe. I'm not one for taking thousands upon thousands of images in a spray and pray sort of way. Instead, I choose to wait for moments unfolding.

Over the years, I've learned to anticipate certain situations. As a result of this, I tend to watch, wait and just observe. I much prefer candid photography over set up or posed as I feel the photographs are more characterful this way. I want you to enjoy and cherish a set of photographs full of emotion. Images that show you parts of the day you may not remember, that raise a smile, shed a tear or both at the same time!

Give me a shout to check your date

Some of you may have stumbled upon my blog by accident and chose to stick around, so thank you! Whether you're looking for a wedding photographer for your wedding at Healey Barn, or anywhere else within the UK, feel free to reach out to me.

Outdoor Wedding Newton Hall - Rachel & David

The sun was shining for Rachel and David's beautiful outdoor wedding Newton Hall on the iconic Northumberland Coast.

Wedding photos for an outdoor ceremony at Newton Hall

The sun was shining for Rachel and David's beautiful outdoor wedding Newton Hall.  A stone's throw from the iconic Northumberland Coast. I think the day will most certainly go down as the hottest day of the summer, the day topped out at around twenty seven degrees. In fact it was so hot that the staff decided to erect the sun canopy for fear of guests overheating.

Unheard of really for a UK wedding, and in Northumberland of all places! Newton Hall is about an hour long drive from Newcastle, it's always a pleasant start to the day when the sun is shining. Rachel and her bridesmaid Joanna got ready in the Pinarello room, a most luxurious room which forms part of the courtyard.

I'd previously photographed Joanna's farm wedding, her sister's wedding, and several friends' weddings in between. One of the nice things about shooting weddings through referrals, is that often I'm photographing the same group of friends. Rachel has to go down as one the calmest of brides. Usually, when I'm photographing bridal prep, the room is carnage. On this morning, it was Rachel, her mum and Joanna. The atmosphere was calm, despite being so hot!

A brief description of Rachel and David's wedding

The ceremony was an outdoor one, my very first as it happens and hopefully the first of many. From a photographic point of view, having the freedom of movement that outdoor ceremonies offer was quite refreshing. Even David was calm as he waited. Rachel, looked absolutely stunning walking up the aisle with the proudest father in the world.

The day was everything I'd hoped for, tough at times with such bright sunshine, but just a pure joy to be part of from start to finish. It ended with the finest of sunsets, and we managed to finish the day with some amazing portraits, followed by some fun times on the dance floor, (see David with his sister in the image section!)

A little about how I capture wedding photos at Newton Hall

Being primarily a documentary wedding photographer means I tend to photograph around 99% of the wedding day in a very natural and unposed style. Documentary wedding photography is also known as reportage which really allows the day to unfold in real time and as it happens. This doesn't mean that I won't shoot family formals or couple portraits.

Simply put, they're an integral part to any wedding day and so demand my utmost attention. You'll see from the images below that Rachel & David took full advantage of the most beautiful of sunset portraits. I love my job, and this day in the office made me smile for a while afterwards. Congratulations guys, thanks for having me along. If you're planning your own unique and beautiful outdoor wedding Newton Hall, or anywhere else in the UK for that matter, and you'd like to ask me along then why not get in touch?

Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photography | Lara & Anth

If Le Petit Chateau wedding photography is what you’ve come to see then check out Lara & Anth’s epic wedding day.

If Le Petit Chateau wedding photography is what you’ve come to see then check out Lara & Anth’s epic wedding day.

We're sat in a tearoom discussing the wedding when Anth tears up. Soon after, the same thing happens to Lara. Tears rolling down her face, I ask her what's up? It's just got very real was her answer. When they met the cake supplier, they talked cake. They met the florist, they talked flowers, you get my drift. They talk photography and it's everything, the whole day. I think the emotions of the highs and lows of planning a wedding over months, probably years, came flooding out right there.

Boutique wedding venue for fun loving couples

Le Petit Chateau in Northumberland is a rather unique wedding venue. Luxurious and with a boutique style, it can cater for indoor and outdoor weddings, in some quite stunning spaces inside and out.

My style is very natural and candid and more commonly known as documentary or reportage wedding photography. Being a North East wedding photographer means I'm lucky enough to shoot at some of the best wedding venues in northumberland. That being said, my approach to wedding photography doesn't change. For me at least, it's all about the people first, venue second. This is by no means disrespectful towards a venue, but simply put my aim is to document people in love sharing intimate moments with loved ones, no matter where they are.

When I arrived I walked through each room familiarising myself with the layout. Finishing up in the garden, I even met the gardener, who was rightly very pleased with her creation and only too happy to talk to me about what flower's when during the seasons. The wedding was fantastic, and Lara and Anth's friends and family were a hoot to be around.

I'm going to let the images tell the story from here. I make no apology for the amount of images you're about to see. There's a lot, as far as weddings go, it was right up there.

Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photography for you?

Finally, if you're still looking to book your Le Petit Chateau wedding photography, then perhaps you might like to get in touch?

Just in case you're still not sure if I'm the Le Petit Chateau Wedding Photographer for you! Here's another smasher of a wedding to enjoy. I can't wait to hear from you..

Sarah & Franz | Bamburgh Castle Weddings Rock!

There's nothing ordinary about Bamburgh Castle weddings. Sarah & Franz arrived from Australia to be married at this iconic wedding venue.

There's nothing ordinary about Bamburgh Castle weddings. This wedding venue never fails to excite me as a photographer so when I met with Sarah and Franz I was very happy when they hired me. Sarah's originally from the North East, and Franz from Australia, so for half of the guests it involved travelling halfway round the world.

The day began at Middleton Hall in Belford, Northumberland. A well established venue of its own, Middleton Hall was the setting for both the preparations and reception. The Boathouse was the accommodation of choice for the bridesmaids. Offering the most stunning of views of all the properties, it also made for a dream assignment for me. The guys opted for the main hall, I'm guessing the snooker room made this a no brainer!

The wedding party travelled over to Bamburgh in the most extravagant of luxury cars I've ever seen. Yours truly managed to blag a lift with Sarah and her dad, which allowed me to capture dad seeking comfort in his hip flask.

In typical UK fashion, the weather didn't disappoint our Aussie friends. As if by magic, upon arrival at Bamburgh Castle, the heavens opened.Bamburgh Castle is easily one of the most stunning wedding venues in Northumberland. I want to also mention on my blog the tremendous hospitality shown to me by Chris and his wife Grazia, who are the proprietors. They couldn't have been more supportive, and a real credit to the smooth running of the castle.

Bamburgh Beach is literally a stone's throw away!

The ceremony was beautiful and as grand a setting as I expected. Afterwards, we did a few family photographs followed by some portraits and a sneaky trip to the beach which is minutes away. This worked well as it allowed the guests time to get back to Middleton Hall, so no one had time to report them missing!

Speeches followed the wedding breakfast, which was scrumptious by the way. Since the ceremony was a 5pm start, I stayed later into the evening to make sure I captured some dance moves. There was a slight hiccup which did get a few giggles. The evening entertainment pitched up at Middleton Lodge, a mere ninety miles away! But in true style, the party went on.

Thanks for having me along guys to the most memorable off Bamburgh Castle weddings. Here's a few from your amazing wedding day.

Doxford Barns Wedding Photography | Helen & Katrina

Helen & Katrina's Doxford Barns Wedding Photography offers a fabulous insight into a day at one of Northumberland's best rustic wedding venues.

Helen & Katrina's Doxford Barns Wedding Photography offers a fabulous insight into a day at one of Northumberland's best rustic wedding venues. Doxford Barns is right up there as one of the favourites amongst wedding photographers. This made for a beautiful setting for what was my first same sex wedding. It seems like an age ago since they booked me. With a few weeks to spare we met up to run through their plans. These two ladies are just amazing, and I loved them both instantly. We had a coffee, talked wedding talk and laughed a lot. What's not to love?

Doxford Barns Rural Barn Conversion in Northumberland

Doxford Barns is off the A1, just north of Alnwick in Northumberland. It's a truly unique award winning wedding barn experience located very near the Northumberland coast. Several tastefully renovated stone built cottages offer the wedding party relaxed and comfortable accommodation with 200 yards of The Great Barn, which is at the heart of the wedding celebrations. All of this is set within a 550 acre country estate. Think rural charm and modern elegance, merge the two and you’ve got a bespoke, rustic and charming wedding venue in Northumberland that is full of character.

Threshing Hall Wedding Ceremony

I spent some time with the girls photographing them getting ready.  We then went to The Cart Shed for pre wedding drinks and nibbles. breaking tradition slightly, Helen & Katrina then went for a quick outfit change, before heading to the eighteenth century Threshing Hall to be married. The rain came down almost immediately after the ceremony, but the girls partied on. Their family and friends were just incredible, allowing me to capture some all important family photographs in a working barn. The evening entertainment was in the capable hands of Hip Hop Hooray, an alternative wedding band with some unbelievable tracks. Thanks to these guys they had everyone up on their feet dancing and hip hopping the night away.

Jesmond Dene House Wedding - Rebecca & Philip

Rebecca & Philip's Jesmond Dene House wedding took place in early summer and through light rain and shine they had the most fabulous day.

Rebecca & Philip's Jesmond Dene House wedding took place in early summer and through light rain and shine they had the most fabulous day. The day began with Rebecca and her bridesmaids. Her parent's house was amazing to photograph in. There was an abundance of natural light in a really spacious area .

The bridesmaids were in a classic VW Campervan, and Rebecca and her dad in a classic VW Beetle. We were a little unlucky after the ceremony because the heavens opened as we were about to photograph some groups. However, we eventually got our break, and twenty minutes later the family photographs were done.

We went to the bridal suite after Rebecca and Philip had finished their meal. The room was spacious enough to photograph some really lovely indoor portraits since the rain was still threatening us outside. Philip is camera shy, but you wouldn't  know this looking at their pictures. I think even he was surprised at how painless I made this part of the day.

As we were wrapping up, the sun broke through so were able to get a couple of portraits outside. I'd like to thank their family and friends, who made their Jesmond Dene House Wedding a delight to be at and to photograph.

How I photograph a Jesmond Dene House Wedding?

I'm now in my second decade as a Northumberland wedding photographer and my approach over the years has always been the same. Being a documentary wedding photographer, my focus is always on the people first before the venue. My aim is to capture my couples and their family and friends in a natural and candid way.

I do this by using light, composition and the moment to ensure that my images tell a compelling story. If you and your partner are looking for a wedding photographer for your Jesmond Dene House Wedding then feel free to get in touch.

A Beautiful Ellingham Hall Wedding | Pippa & Arriel

This beautiful Ellingham Hall Wedding was one of many I've photographed here. Ellingham Hall is nestled in the heart of Northumberland.

A beautiful Ellingham Hall wedding in Northumberland

This beautiful  Ellingham Hall wedding was one of many I've photographed here. Ellingham Hall is nestled in the heart of Northumberland. Oozing charm and character, it's one of my favourite Northumberland wedding venues in recent years. I'd met with Pippa and her mum the week leading up to her wedding where we had a coffee and ran through the itinerary of her day.

My morning started at Ellingham with Pippa and her bridesmaids and family. The weather was unfortunately cold and wet but that's April in the UK for you. Nothing was going to dampen the relaxed and very pleasant flow of the day. The church ceremony took place in St Michaels in Alnwick. The photography here is limited but after a short ceremony and drive back to Ellingham, the party started in earnest.

Speeches took place in the lounge area which was a first for me and a huge hit with the guests as it just added to the relaxed and laid back feel throughout their day. Pippa's father is a retired priest and delivered a very powerful and moving speech, being a public speaker he was a tough act to follow but Arriel and his best men performed admirably with some lovely kind words shared amongst their guests, and a few handkerchiefs as well. This was certainly a lovely Ellingham Hall wedding and the first of many in my season. Pippa and Arriel, I wish you guys a very long and happy future together.

Are you looking for a wedding photographer for your own Ellingham Hall wedding?

I hope you like the images you're about to see below. I'm a documentary wedding photographer which means with the exception of a handful of couple portraits and family formals, everything else is unposed. I much prefer working this way.  I find that when I deliver the final images to my couples, family and friends real personalities shine through.

If you'd like to enquire about my services then I’d love to hear from you. Whether you're looking for Ellingham Hall wedding photography, or wedding photography somewhere else, why not get in touch?

Hadrians Wall Wedding Photography | Becky & Adam

Becky & Adam’s Hadrians Wall wedding photography involved a trip to the world famous Sycamore Gap.

Becky & Adam’s Hadrians Wall wedding photography involved a trip to the world famous Sycamore Gap. When they got in touch with me, I was so happy I was free. It's not every day you get an enquiry for a wedding overlooking the world famous Sycamore Gap at Hadrian's Wall. Those who are unsure of the location need to watch Robin Hood starring Kevin Costner!

Becky & Adam live in Birmingham so I didn't actually meet Becky until a week before their wedding. I thought it'd be a good idea to meet her before her wedding. I'm so glad I did because their house is beautiful but also very isolated. I didn't want to take the chance of getting lost with a wrong turn on her actual wedding day!

A little bit about Hadrian's Wall wedding photography

The day had the usual mix of UK weather. This ranged from overcast and windy, to outbreaks of sun, torrential rain and the most stunning rainbow display I've been lucky enough to experience on any day, let alone a wedding day. I've never been one for insisting couples have fancy posed photographs but a rainbow portrait is the exception!

The service was conducted by an extremely nice vicar at their local church, followed by a bus trip back to the house where a beautifully dressed marquee awaited their guests. One of the highlights of the day was a short drive to Sycamore Gap to shoot a few frames for Becky & Adam. Becky's father Ian managed to get permission to access the land and drive us to within 200 yds of the tree.

I'm almost certain that Becky & Adam are the only couple that I'm aware of that have Hadrians Wall wedding photography by the Sycamore Gap. Speeches, food, drink and lots of dancing followed. I remember the speeches like they were yesterday as they were extremely funny! Here's a few from their day.

I want to thank Becky & Adam, and their parents, the rest of their families and guests for making me feel so welcome on the day, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a real pleasure from start to finish.

Are you looking for Hadrian's Wall wedding photography or any other wedding venue throughout the UK? If you like my style of wedding photography then feel free to contact me.

What happened to Sycamore Gap?

On the evening of the 28th September, our beloved Sycamore Gap tree was felled through the night. Locals were unaware of this as the high winds throughout the night caused by Storm Agnes drowned out the sound of this blatant act of vandalism.

As of April 2024, Northumbria Police are still investigating but whatever the outcome, this doesn’t take away the loss that we all are experiencing. Thankfully, the tree lives on and in the future it is thought that the tree will grow back. We live in hope. You can read more about it here

A Barn Wedding in Northumberland at High House Farm Brewery

Nicola & Jeff's barn wedding in Northumberland comes with a health warning. If you dislike hugs, laughter, a lot of love and some more hugs, then this story's probably not for you..

Nicola & Jeff's barn wedding in Northumberland comes with a health warning. If you dislike hugs then this story's probably not for you! If seeing so much love in one place, brightens up your day and leaves you feeling somewhat energised, then this post is most definitely for you.

I've been lucky enough to work at High House Farm Brewery (Now known as High House Barn) on numerous occasions before, but I simply can't get enough of the place. The location, the layout, the staff, everything about High House Farm weddings checks the boxes for me.

Looking for a photographer for your own Barn wedding in Northumberland?

Nicola & Jeff's wedding didn't start in the usual format. Usually I'd photograph in some part, the bridal preps but instead I started around an hour before the ceremony to capture the guests arriving. It was an extremely hot day in early July, about as good as it gets for a barn wedding.

Meeting Jeff and his best man and seeing them together for the first time was an event in itself, talk about a tag team. They would not have looked out of place on a stage, in fact as you'll see from the images, we substituted a stage for a beer barrel at one point. The brief for the day was to  about as laid back as it gets. Minimal couple shots, a few family formals, and other than that, photograph the day as it happens.

Like most of my couple's, Nicola & Jeff weren't big on anything being staged or posed, which is music to my ears..

Are you looking for a Northumberland wedding photographer for your own High House Farm wedding? I've been a recommended photographer at High House Farm for several years now.

This brilliant barn wedding in Northumberland went flawlessly. The wedding breakfast consisted of a hog roast followed by lashings of locally made ice cream.  This was then washed down with High House Farm's own brew. I can't remember photographing so many hugs and moments involving laughter and tears of joy in all my years photographing weddings. The guests were just awesome human beings, I felt like a guest myself with a camera, just a joy to witness so many friends and family coming together.

Nicola & Jeff, you're a pair of stars. Thanks for having me there to capture your story, and for a thoroughly happy and uplifting experience.

Brinkburn Priory Wedding Photos | Maddy & Tom

If you're a couple looking for Brinkburn Priory wedding photos then check out Maddy & Tom's amazing late summer wedding.

If you're looking for Brinkburn Priory wedding photos then check out Maddy & Tom's amazing late summer wedding.

Brinkburn Priory weddings tend to be pretty epic. The setting is ideal for a relaxed and fun wedding, and the staff see to it that you're well looked after. I've been blessed with just the most amazing couples here, and Maddy & Tom were no different. The first time I met Maddy was the morning of her wedding. I also met her family and bridesmaids at a cosy holiday cottage just five minutes from Brinkburn.

Maddy was just lovely, and her friends and family equally so. Phillip Black was also there to shoot some video, and together we ducked and dived and documented our own little stories.

An observer with a documentary style of wedding photography

I've now photographed several Brinkburn Priory weddings and each have been different and brilliant at the same time. In terms of how I photograph weddings here, my number one priority is always the people. I'm a people watcher at heart so observing human interactions is something that has always interested me.

To then be able to record these interactions, and record such a variety of personalities, truly makes for the most magical of memories. This style of wedding photography is known as documentary. On this occasion, I hit unlucky with the duty priest, who chose not to allow the ceremony to be photographed. I honestly thought that occasions such as weddings were celebrated by the church.

So when a couple put a considerable amount of planning into their day, it seems an awful shame to then be told no photographs. I was allowed to capture Maddy walking down the aisle with her father, and then both Maddy & Tom as they skipped, I say again, skipped back down the aisle!! The day was a hoot. We were blessed with outdoor weather and fine weather at that. We even had a little sparkler party as my time there drew to a close.

Still not sure if you'd hire me for your Brinkburn Priory wedding photos?

If you'd like to see another beautiful wedding story then check out Elizabeth & Andy's Brinkburn Priory wedding photography. For those wishing to get in touch to discuss your own wedding photography feel free to contact me.

Ellingham Hall Wedding Photography | Jo & Dougie

When Jo & Dougie asked me to do their Ellingham Hall wedding photography I had little idea just how much fun this wedding was going to be.

When Jo & Dougie asked me to do their Ellingham Hall wedding photography I had little idea just how much fun this wedding was going to be. I hadn't actually met Jo & Dougie until the day of their wedding though I'd spoken with Dougie on numerous occasions over the phone. From this, we'd already struck a real feeling of friendship prior to their big day.

I remember it being an unusually hot day for September, since the week leading up to their day wasn't a particularly warm one. This was my very first time at Ellingham Hall, and before it slips my mind, I want to commend Richard and his staff for a thoroughly friendly, warm and professional job done.

Ellingham Hall a stately home and a real gem of a Northumberland wedding venue. It's located a few miles off the A1 approximately 40 minutes north of Newcastle. If exclusivity and privacy are your thing, then Ellingham Hall is perfect. When I met Dougie that Saturday morning we hit it off there and then, just as we had over the phone.

Dougie's quite old fashioned. As a result of this, he's not on Facebook and prefers talking over the phone rather than emails. Personally, I found him a real breath of fresh air in a world where sadly, contact is sometimes little more than a like, a share or a comment.

Dougie, and several of his guests, are air steward/stewardesses, in fact I believe this is where he first met Jo, approximately thirty thousand feet up! You can just imagine some of the one liners during the speeches..

Ellingham Hall wedding photography & the singing waiters.

When I first went up to Jo's room to photograph her, I thought she looked like Angelina Jolie. Modestly, she thought Dougie had set me up. Dougie also sees the Angelina in her, and our mutual observations were purely coincidental. Like Dougie, Jo was a hoot to be around from the off and she instantly made my job so much easier.

I admit to crying at this wedding, to the sound of two singing waiters. Prior to the speeches I was tipped off that they would appear, but having never heard them before I was unsure as to who or what to expect. They literally brought the house down. Two guys who actually seated the guests as they entered the reception room, and had everyone completely fooled with Italian accents. The guests thought they were members of staff at Ellingham, until one burst into song.

After that, the penny dropped. The emotions struck up by these two were something else. The room was in uproar and guests were waving their serviette's above their heads. There was singing, laughing, screaming and tears of emotion flooding the room.

It was one of the most adrenaline fuelled moments I can ever remember being a part of at a wedding. At the end of their performance, they revealed their true identity. In broad Scottish, it turns out one was from Glasgow, the other, Aberdeen.Thank you Jo & Dougie, for inviting me along.

Are you looking for a wedding photographer for your own wedding?

I'm a Northumberland wedding photographer with a documentary style. As you'll see from the photographs I prefer natural photography and for the best part of a wedding shoot candid photographs. I find that posed and set up photographs can often look a little awkward. Lucky for me, the couples who approach me for their own wedding photography feel the same.

If you'd like to check out another wedding here then you can head over to this beautiful Ellingham Hall wedding with Pippa and Arriel.

If you're still looking for your Ellingham Hall wedding photography, then please feel free to get in touch to check my availability.

Marquee wedding photography in Northumberland | Kat & Dan

Kat & Dan's marquee wedding photography in Northumberland just about smashed the epic-o-meter!! Photography by North East photographer Phil Nunez

Kat & Dan's marquee wedding photography in Northumberland just about smashed the epic-o-meter!! This little adventure took me up to Embleton on the beautiful Northumberland coast.  It was an unusually warm day in May with a very welcoming sea breeze. The bride and groom preps took place in two holiday rentals literally next door to each other. Both were boasting the most stunning of views over to Dunstanburgh Castle.

The distance between preps, church and marquee was under five minutes on foot and that's the beauty of Embleton village. It's small but beautifully proportioned, and the ideal setting for Kat & Dan's big day. Despite the wind, we even managed a trip to the beach. The local golf club members weren't quite sure what hit them when 3 cars pulled up and a small army of dresses and suits piled out in front of them.

A short walk down to the beach and we captured some really cracking memories. Gopro cameras are quite the rage these days, 4k footage, easy peasy editing software and small enough to fit on bikes, ski poles, helmets and... A bottle of Luxardo Limoncello! I'd never witnessed a GoPro used in such a creative way, kudos to the brains behind this.

Planning your own marquee wedding photography in Northumberland?

The day was so much fun from start to finish. Kat & Dan were an amazing couple to work with. Not surprising that they have a great circle of friends and family who were equally amazingly fun to photograph and be around. For those planning their own marquee wedding photography in Northumberland or anywhere within the UK, please feel free to get in touch.

A Winter Wedding at Woodhill Hall | Jenna & Gary

A winter wedding at Woodhill Hall with Jenna & Gary photographed by Northumberland documentary wedding photographer Phil Nunez

This winter wedding at Woodhill Hall unsurprisingly didn't fail with the lousy weather. One thing it did fail to do however, was dampen Jenna & Gary's spirits, nor the 60 plus guests who were more than happy to party on.

Woodhall Hall, situated just outside Otterburn is one of those exclusive Northumberland wedding venues where you literally "move in" in the days leading up to your wedding. As a result, you get to party with your family and close friends for the duration of your stay, and not just your wedding day. With it's own private road in, it's set within acres of beautiful countryside, with everything you need to hold a wedding all in one place.

Family wedding at Woodhill Hall in Northumberland

Now Jenna was no ordinary bride, she's my beautiful cousin, my flesh and blood and so this was a wedding with a twist in that the bride's half of the guest list consisted of my lovely family. Despite the hideous weather the day was a huge success. Being in the room with my Uncle Ian when he saw Jenna in her dress for the first time was a tear jerker for everyone present (including me). Ian underwent major life saving surgery last year and so it made the day even more special not just for Jenna and Gary but for all of us. I got to be a guest for a few hours at the end of the night, that was a first in many years!

My approach to a winter wedding at Woodhill Hall

As always, my approach remains the same. As a documentary wedding photographer my focus first and foremost is the people. I'm a people watcher at heart so observing these little interactions all day fills me full of joy. I admit however, that I may have been a little more emotional during this wedding since it was my own family.

If you're planning Woodhill Hall wedding photography of your own and haven't yet hired a photographer then feel free to get in touch to share your plans with me. Here's how it went, love from your old cousin Phil xx
